Mikey, is a book about a day at school, seen through the eyes of a child with autism.
We are thrilled so many people have brought a copy of Mikey into their lives, their homes, their schools, their classrooms.
As schools begin again for the 2016/2017 school year, be sure to include Mikey when purchasing school supplies. Alert administrators to provide this book to all regular and special education teachers. Parents give a copy to your child's teachers!
This book, written in an elementary style, however has been used in all grade levels, Kindergarten through High School. It has also been used and quoted in a doctoral thesis.

From National Autism Association
* From Washington Post, 11/13/15. The number of autism cases in the United States appeared to jump dramatically in 2014, according to new estimates .
The report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and National Center for Health Statistics shows the prevalence of autism in children ages 3 to 17 went up nearly 80 percent from 2011-2013 to 2014. Instead of 1 in 68 children having autism -- a number that has alarmed public health officials in recent years and strained state and school system resources -- researchers now estimate that the prevalence is now 1 in 45.
This means that 2 percent of children in the U.S. are living with autism.
The study also found that children diagnosed with autism had high rates of co-occurring conditions. Learning disabilities were the most common with 62.6 percent of children with autism also having LDs. Next highest was attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder or ADHD with 42.8 percent of those with autism also having ADHD.
Autism diagnosis impacts 1 in 45 children.

"Putting the Spotlight on Autism with MIKEY"
Milwaukee's Northpoint Magazine, November 2014 Issue
Judy and Mindee wrote this incredible book, beautifully illustrated by Mark Fairbanks, whose images clearly depict Mikey's emotions. Mikey speaks to acceptance, awareness and understanding of children with autism in your schools.
Mikey explains how a young child with autism sees, hears, and feels the world around him, in his school environment. This book beautifully explains difficulties children with autism have with their communication needs, social skill interactions and sensory processing areas. All these areas significantly impact children with autism in our classrooms.
Mikey is not just intended for educators; although, all teachers should read it to their classes. It is intended to educate adults, as well as, children to increase their awareness, acceptance and understanding of the child with autism. Decreasing bullying of children with autism is imperative.
Judy and Mindee have appeared on morning news shows in 16 major cities, to discuss this incredible book, as well as, talk about strategies for children with autism in our schools.
They have had articles written about them and the book Mikey, published in major publications in the United States, London, Australia, Ireland and Scotland.
The bottom line of their book and message is...
ALL children deserve to be happy and successful in school .
