Back by popular demand, Lakeside Educational Services, will again offer their tremendous summer writing workshop for high school students.
This workshop, will be conducted by Julie Kaiser an associate English professor at UWM, aims to strengthen writing skills from prewriting to final revisions, with all the steps in between. High school writers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. Most importantly, we will be working on learning to be CONFIDENT writers.
Ms. Kaiser states the number one issue teachers see in student writing is an inability to read and thoughtfully analyze given sources. We will be working on close-reading skills which then transfer to stronger student writing. Specifically, we ask students to read a source material and organize their response in a clear, coherent way. No more plagiarizing! No more off-topic discussion! Just focused analysis.
Our 8 day workshop, will also include a visit from Christina Craig, owner of Christina Craig College Counseling. Ms. Craig has worked as a college counselor in California and as an admissions officer at Marquette University. Christina helps students find, apply to colleges that fit them best. She is an expert on the college application essay, successfully helping each student tell their unique and captivating story. These essays are integral to a student's chances of admission. Christina will present at the workshop on Wednesday August 1st from 10:30-12:00. You are welcome to join us for her presentation.
