2019 Summer Writing Workshops

Lakeside Educational Service's very successful high school summer writing workshop will be back this summer. Writing is a critical skill and this workshop will strengthen your child’s writing and organizational skills.
This workshop, is for current high school students ONLY!

It is developed and run by Morgan Foster a previous high school writing teacher, now an associate professor at UWM. Morgan currently teaches first-year college students composition. This workshop aims to strengthen writing skills from prewriting to final revisions, with all the steps in between. High school writers of all skill levels are encouraged to attend. Most importantly, we will be working on learning to be CONFIDENT writers.
Ms. Foster states the number one issue teachers see in student writing is an inability to read and thoughtfully analyze given sources. We will be working on close-reading skills, analyzation of reading pieces, use of citations, use of high-level vocabulary, all using an organizational format.

This 8-day workshop, will also include a visit from Christina Craig, owner of Christina Craig College Counseling. Ms. Craig worked as a college counselor in California and an admissions officer at Marquette University.
Christina helps students find and apply to colleges that fit them best. She is an expert on the college application essay, successfully helping each student tell their unique and captivating story.
Christina will present at the workshop on Wednesday, August 1st from 10:30-12:00. Parents are welcome to attend.

In an interview on 3/16/19 with Julia La Roche, a reporter with Yahoo Finance, Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon said the one skillset that's becoming harder to find in young adults is the ability to write.

Students must learn how to communicate with other people, how to interact with other people, how you express yourself in person and on paper, all will have a huge impact on your success.

Writing is incorporated in all academic subjects.
